Apply for Externship with Scholarship
Are you a student enrolled in a medical school without a plastic surgery training program? If so, you could be at a disadvantage when matching into a plastic surgery residency program since you have yet to have the same opportunities to learn from plastic surgery mentors, network within the aesthetic community, or assist with research. Furthermore, we understand where you live, financial limitations, and personal hardships could prevent you from participating in the education you deserve.
We want to help bridge this gap for you.
Overview
The Externship With Scholarship offers the same benefits as the Externship but includes a scholarship of up to $3,500 if you qualify to help cover program-related costs such as travel, lodging, local transportation, and meals to attend your observership and The Aesthetic MEET. A limited number of scholarships are available and are awarded based on financial need.
This Externship focuses on general aesthetic plastic surgery education with potential for aesthetic research opportunities. In this program, we pair you with a board-certified plastic surgeon and Active Member of The Aesthetic Society for a yearlong 1:1 mentorship. We will make every attempt to match you with a mentor in your state to reduce the time and expense of travel and lodging.
You will participate in regular calls where your mentor can answer questions, suggest reading materials, offer advice, provide educational guidance, and share real-world experiences. You will attend a 5-day observership at your mentor’s office to observe patient consults, watch live treatments, learn about practice management, and more.
If your mentor is participating in an active research project, you may have the opportunity to assist.
Lastly, we provide you with complimentary registration to The Aesthetic MEET. If you choose to attend, your mentor can guide you on which educational courses to go to and help you expand your network throughout the 4-day event.
Eligibility
Must be a year 1-4 DO or MD medical student currently enrolled in a medical college in the US or Canada without a home plastic surgery program and is facing financial hardship. The Externship Program Task Force reserves the right to assign students to the closest Mentor to their place of residence in order to allow more broad distribution of the resources available.

Please read and follow all instructions on the application. Only complete submissions that follow the stated requirements will be eligible.
Review Process
The Externship Program Task Force reviews and rates all externship applications. We accept the applicants with the highest rating into the program. The number of accepted applicants each quarter varies depending on the mentors and research projects available.
