Are you a medical student interested in aesthetic research? We provide a career-accelerating opportunity for you to learn more about the research process and even assist with an aesthetic research study.
Overview
The Cooperative Research Externship helps you gain a more comprehensive understanding of aesthetic research and develop a broad range of research skills. We match you with other medical students with similar interests but diverse abilities. Each cooperative research team will assist with an active aesthetic research study. We pair each team with a group mentor (a board-certified plastic surgeon and lead researcher) who will guide you throughout the research project. You will also receive access to the Aesthetic Research Community for Medical Students (ARCMS) via AestheticConnect, where you can find additional research resources and community support.
Participation in this program is entirely online with no required travel, making this option accessible to any student interested in aesthetic research. As such, there is no scholarship available for this option.
Eligibility
Must be a year 1-4 DO or MD medical student currently enrolled in a medical college (with or without a home plastic surgery program).

Assist with an aesthetic research study
Present your findings at least twice at national conferences, showcasing the team’s collaborative efforts and contributions to advancing aesthetics.

Application
To apply, you must complete the Externship Application Form.
Please read and follow all instructions on the application. Only complete submissions that follow the stated requirements will be eligible.
Review Process
The Externship Program Task Force reviews and rates all externship applications. We accept the applicants with the highest rating into the program. The number of accepted applicants each quarter varies depending on the mentors and research projects available.
